Ooops...It's not Sunday and here I am baking away again. Well it's something even better than a Sunday...can you guess? A snow day!!! Yes, here in the midwest it does nothing but snow at this time of year. Yeah us.
Anyway tonight for dinner, beef roast, and I thought what goes with beef roast? How about some of grandma's Baking Powder Biscuits? Yes, please!
Here's the recipe...
Baking Powder Biscuits-Shortcake
3 c. Flour
4 1/2 tsp BP (baking powder)
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c shry (shortening)
1 c milk--1 egg yolk and then fill cup with milk.(loved this)
A soft dough-knead lightly about 20 strokes-Bake 425
Can I just say delicious. I couldn't wait for the beef roast, just peeled one in half and put some butter on. Yummy, right from the oven. This recipe made about 20 small biscuits. I use a glass as a biscuit cutter. I even used one of Grandma Johnson's drinking glasses.
I apologize for not having any pictures. I am not an expert where technology is concerned, but I am learning. I am scanning in the recipes and trying to figure out how to post the originals. I have also taken pictures of my creations and will figure out how to post those soon, too.
Things I remember from Grandma's kitchen--helping to cut out the biscuits. Grandma used a drinking glass too. I also remember making these and then using the biscuits for Strawberry Shortcake--usually in June. Good memories.
Enjoy making some new ones with this great recipe.
Thanks Grandma. Love, Laura
